So a Christian and an atheist walk into a bar…
… and they write a children’s book!
Okay, it didn’t quite happen that way.
Most of Obie the Octopus was written by Andy and Bliss (with the
invaluable input of their spouses, of course) on one of their couches or porches as their children
played. The friendship between Obie and Ruby slowly took form over—perhaps even in spite
of—countless hectic workweeks, sporadic family dinners, meltdowns and temper tantrums
(usually the children), and brandy Old Fashioneds (always the adults).
Many would describe Obie and Ruby as an unlikely pair, but that’s exactly what makes their
friendship special. In fact, you might even say the same of the friendship between Andy’s family
and Bliss’ family!
At Neighborhood Ink, we value the unique perspective and life experiences each of us brings to
the table. Neither of us feels threatened or offended by the other’s sincerely held beliefs or
non-beliefs. We value our friendship first and foremost, and we communicate our differences in
opinion reasonably, responsibly, and lovingly.
We also value the insight we’ve gained and the personal growth we’ve experienced from
challenging life lessons we’ve learned the hard way. You can expect to see that theme arise in
future books!
So who are we? In an age of significant division, we are passionate about being good
neighbors, and we’re passionate about writing good stories. We hope you enjoy them!
